Nice ambience and tasty food at Restaurant On Kee Permas Jaya 安记楼

Restaurant On Kee is a fine chinese cuisine restaurant that is located in Bandar Baru Permas Jaya. it is a fully air conditioned restaurant with fine ambiance. They also broadcast soothing music there. Although this is not y first time into this restaurant. However it is first time that i visited this restaurant ever since i started this Spicy johor Blog. thus this time around i am more enjoying the environment and the food more details.  
I must say that i am very happy to have my dinner here this evening. Started from the smiling that we received when entering the premises from the polite waitresses. Temperatures of the premises was just nice. we definitely feels comfortably enough. 
If you wander enough in the restaurant it isn't hard for us to notice that their chef is a award winning chef. 
We ordered 4 dishes + 1 desert. what must be praised for the good work here is 2 dish that taste good and good to be recommended. The preserved turnips steam grouper And Chicken essence steamed Prawn. we actually finished all the gravy of the chicken essence!

Lastly we also ordered a Teo Chew Yam as a desert but due to i was too busy with my kids i totally forgotten to took the picture of it. Teo Chew Yam is always a very good desert to have. Total damage of 195. Grouper is costing RM 11 per 100/g (total RM75) and the Prawn Damage RM 45.  


Although not cheap but if wanna pleased someone with a nice cuisine such as your girlfriend family then this place would be a nice choice!

Restaurant Hwa Mei Bak Kut Teh, 40 yrs of taste 华美肉骨茶

There are so many Good taste BKT in Johor, but a few fit my taste bud. Hwa Mei is one of the few that managed to keep my mind on him every time that i was in JB town in the morning. Now the name of the restaurant is confusing. I would think that it should be called Hwa Mei, instead of Mei Hwa. as Old chinese word reading is always from right to left (reverse when compare to english reading). I am confusing is because searching in internet most of the netizen called this restaurant as Hwa mei. Anyway we are referring to the same restaurant.

Hwa Mei already has more than 40 yrs of running business and is still here. although they had changed the "management team" (I actually mean the cashier), original tau keh nio (Lady Boss) has already passed away due to cancer (My condolence). But the chef uncle always with a white singlet (Bruce Lee style) is still there healthy and cooking. So rest assure that as per my title Original taste for 40 yrs is still here.

Environment in this restaurant is always cosy, this shop is located under a big old tree and windy spot, so you can imagine you don't need air-cond to keep yourself cosy in this place.
Its BKT is cooked using charcoal, and the whole restaurant is filled with mild aromatic smell of charcoal.
In terms of service it has actually gotten better since changes of management, it is now managed by their relative on the cashier and service side.
I would rate a 'B' on its cleanliness. The staff working there is also very friendly :)



It is a bowl type BKT, they managed to keep the tenderness of the pork and you can which part of the pork that you like.
It has a very tasty broth - strong sauce taste, but not heavy taste. taste Best when you are having your "Brunch"

Remember to always order a pot of hot tea when having BKT, Tea is said to be helpful on lowering your blood cholesterol. as BKT is consider high cholesterol food. eg: eating satay with cucumber.

Poh Kee Wan ton Mee (葆记云吞面)well known Pandan Wanton Mee

Sunday Morning,  

Today will be a good day with festive mood, Sun was warm and welcoming temperature breeze. So me and my wife has decided to go for a sumptuous breakfast at Desa Tebrau. That is our traditional favorite breakfast meal Wanton Mee.

There is a plenty of delicious Wanton Mee in JB area. Some selling in the night as a supper and some as breakfast & lunch. so as a malaysian chinese, we can eat wanton mee at anytime of the day whether as breakfast, lunch or supper, but not Dinner (Not enough to full my starving stomach in my opinion).

One of the Tebrau area famous wanton mee is at Pandan, it is located behind a chinese temple and since 20 yrs ago there is always 2 stall selling wanton mee in the same place. anyway both also selling very nice wanton mee. but i am not writing this 2 stall, i will be writing this Poh Kee Wanton Mee that is located in Desa Tebrau. it is then 2nd generation that is passed down from 1 of the 2 store that is located in Pandan. I personally prefer this new branch is due to it's quality food (in my opinion it is more tasty than the old shop), cleanliness and ambiance.

I love its mee as it has a nice springy biting feel, they are using black sauce for the Mee, which is different from singapore Wanton Mee (Singaporean prefer eating using red sauce), it also give us a sweet taste as it should be, but it's Wanton (meat that is wrapped with a thin skin of flour) it quite normal taste.
Furthermore, apart from its wanton mee, you must also order their Yong Tau Fu, their Yong tau fu is as tasty as it looks. i Particularly love its Taufu and its Eggplant. Must order buddy,

Apart from tasty food, I always thinks that sauce used to dip a food is also very crucial for my option. eating wanton mee must have side dish / Sauce, Green Chili dipped with vinegar to increase our appetite for food, and Chili sauce used to dip yong tau fu. perfect food + perfect side dish = A very happy morning!


On top of all the tasty food that they are providing, they also provide us reasonable pricing for the food!

Pandan Wanton Mee has a long history, i has been eating it for the past 20 yrs. it is a must recommend food for you all.

Tua Thow Kueh Teow Soup (大头果条烫)

Kueh Teow Soup from Tua Thow (Big Head) in hokkien.
Is another kind of soup broth that is cooked with various type of seafood. Here this Kueh Teow Soup is a bit different from my last blog Ah Hwa Kueh Teow Soup.
here their signature is their Seafood. Fresh Fish Meat, Fish Maw, Fresh clam thats why when you are eating here. Always ask for the Medium or Large size of the Kueh Tiao. The bigger size not only big on the quantity of kueh teow but it also give you more variety of dishes in the soup.


though this is not my favorite, i would give it 3.5 star for the taste of it. it is still a nice lunch you could have. the only flaw is their shop drinks service is bad (not enough waiter cos 1 person working only) and it's hot enviroment. do try to go there only on cooler weather. else i bet you will get yourself wet on a hot sunny day!

Chez Market Restaurant, Western Food, Totally FRESH Dining Concept

Chez Market Restaurant

This time, I would like to recommend this Western Restaurant called “Chez Market Restaurant” which is located in Austin Height, well, What’s so special about it?
It is the concept of the restaurant. They are selling their food like a “Market” concept. They had renovated the restaurant to works like a market. They displayed all their ingredient or so called “Menu” on the table. You can choose your dish by walking around the restaurant just as you are choosing your ingredient in a Market. Genius isn’t it? Because it really given me a feeling that the food is Really Fresh! From your main dish, Fruit Juice, Salad ETC. Pick your dinner on the spot!

You will not receive any menu card. Instead they will give you a card to record what is the dish that you had chosen. If you are choosing a place for a good relaxing dinner I would say this is one of your choice

as for my dinner on that night i had a grilled snapper,  i am not a western food lover, and this plate size is just too small for me to fill my stomach. but it taste good. nothing to complain, the cream that was used as sauce for the fish is just fantastic. while my friend was having a lasagne taste good too.

 The only thing i would like to complain, our lasagne came very late. the chef forgot to cook our dish though there was not many people in the restaurant at that time and surprisingly the table next to us too has 1 dish forgotten. i guess this is just a technical problem which could be solved easily if the owner of the restaurant take it seriously.
but Owner pls take note if you see this, pls never mess with a hungry man. hungry man lose his temper very fast! 

Pricing: well it is consider pricy for me, an average spending per person would be about 30 easily.
Conclusion: Recommended to eat if you are a Western food lover, looking for a nice environment for food, spaghetti lover.

Pandan Beef Noodle 班兰牛肉面


Pandan Beef Noodle a all time favorite for me. I had this noodle ever since i was kid. 
Pandan Beef Noodle now has 2 branch, 1 in Pandan New Village nearby of the Chinese Temple (三神庙). Another which is always visited is at Johor Jaya Branch. It is rumored that the business is started by their father, later the recipe was passed to his 3 children, and now there are only 2 of his 3 children was still selling beef noodle. 

What you should eat when you are here? I would strongly recommended Dry Noodle. one of the best taste is the taste of his fried garlic oil when it was put on the noodle. when you mixed with their home made chili sauce sweet and spicy on his dry noodle was fantastic.


of course that the main dish is its Beef Ball. their specialties is 2 kind of beef ball. 
  1. Plain Beef Ball - Although it seems like nothing special. it is their hand made beef ball that is very bouncy when you bite it. 
  2. Beef Nerve Ball - this balls is produced from some part of the cattle. the part of the meat that has a lot of nerve on it. normally if we eat by steak these meat will be very hard to cut of. they had amazingly creatively use this part to made it into balls. it created the most bouncy type of ball you will ever had. further added pepper into the making. taste heavenly Fantastic. 

Bad news is 2nd type of balls always sold out. if you are not an early bird you might will missed it.
Of course when you are eating Beef Noodle you should not missed the beef inner parts such as beef kidney, also give a special taste. trust me it wont taste weird. 

they charge reasonably at RM 6 per bowl. 
opened from 8 - 3pm daily.

eating at Skudai Duck Mee, 37years Braised Duck gravy 士古来鸭肉,独特37年卤水

Today i Follow Axian Blog to this Skudai Duck Mee. it is said with this shop has maintained the very same ingredient and same soup 37years of braised duck gravy. The owner have to keep it boiled everyday from keeping it from spoiled. 
The very first impression this restaurant give me is it has a very old shop feeling. not bad actually, just feel like going back to 20years before. it does not have very good renovation, but just good enough for eating pleasure. owner of the restaurant is putting an old Cantonese Drama Song which reminds me of my old Grandpa Favorite type of song. thats why i have a good feeling. 


i did not order much food as i go there with only another 3 friend. as you can see totaled 3 dishes on the table. 
ok, first of all they they offer to serve kueh tiao or white rice. this is up to you own choice. i tested it's kueh tiao. nothing to grumble nor to be praised. it means so so only lah. 
Main Course is the Braised Duck Meat. Duck meat is not tender, i would consider it is rough i find it is acceptable it just serve different people taste of biting (some people like to eat Chicken Breast Meat and some like to eat Chicken Backs which is more tender) and i consider this is like chicken breast meat lo. however as per the title the 37 years of Braised Gravy is fantastic. it give me a very thick flavor of herbal taste. Most importantly it taste very good! 
second is picture on the left. Braised Pig intestine, meat is Tender, it give you a very good biting pleasure where we describe as 'Very Q'. others is normal where i also orders taufu and braised egg
and this Car was parked inside of the restaurant which further enhance the feel of an old shop. i took a good picture of this antique car. Ha Ha, just like it. how i wish it could be my bride car on my wedding day! 
Boss if you see this pls leave a comment and offer me to lend me your Baby! ok!


As a conclusion, i give a 3 star rating for the food taste just nice, braised gravy is fantastic, price is reasonable although a lots of singaporeans do visit here. I paid total RM 40 for the above food +  water. if normally in town this will at least cost us 50% more.
